Perth is full of historic vineyards, wineries and breweries, in and around the city of Perth and throughout Western Australia. Many of Western Australia's best wines are produced in Perth's Swan Valley, and wine from this region of Perth is highly regarded around the world. Winemaking in Perth and Western Australia began in 1829, when the first vineyards were planted at Olive Farm in South Guildford. Yet, it was not until the 1980s that Australian wine was regarded as some of the best wine in the world, and in particular, wines produced from Swan Valley in the Perth area.
